New ‘Edo: Outer Moat, City of Water’ Projection Mapping Show Lights Up Tokyo Government Building
Tokyo’s nightlife has a spectacular new attraction.
“Edo: Outer Moat, City of Water,” a new projection mapping show produced by Ikki Co., Ltd., has begun screenings at the “TOKYO Night & Light” event.
Since its debut on November 1st, the show illuminates the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1, using the landmark as a massive canvas for a display already recognized by Guinness World Records as the “largest permanent projection mapping exhibition on a building.”
The new show is a free-to-watch art experience for all visitors.
Event Overview
The “City of Water: Edo Outer Moat” show is a 4-minute visual work created as part of the “Outer Moat Purification Project,” an initiative to revive Tokyo’s heritage as a “City of Water.”
The projection mapping depicts memories of Edo, the historic water city, and blends them with images of a future city, creating a new story.
Viewers will see fantastical worlds, waterfalls, seasonal flowers blooming alongside pure flowing water, and waterside landscapes inspired by traditional ukiyo-e art.
The content is designed to show a resonance between city and nature, and tradition and innovation.

- Screening Days: Screenings are held only on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
- Show Times: The 4-minute show runs twice per evening:
- Once between 6:30 PM (18:30) and 6:45 PM (18:45)
- Once between 9:00 PM (21:00) and 9:15 PM (21:15)
- Admission: Free, no prior registration required.
- Access: The venue is directly connected to Tochomae Station (Toei Subway Oedo Line) and is an approximately 10-minute walk from the West Exit of JR Shinjuku Station.
