New collab cafe for Virtual Singer Kasane Teto opens in Harajuku
A new collaboration cafe featuring the virtual singer Kasane Teto, titled “Teto! Teto! TropiPop!”, has opened for a limited time at the Harajuku emo cafe.
The event, which began on Monday, the 4th of August, celebrates the unique, fan-created character with a tropical theme.
Kasane Teto is famously known as the “diva born from a lie.”
She was originally created as an elaborate April Fool’s Day prank by users of the Japanese forum 2chan, who designed her as a fake new Vocaloid to trick the community.
However, the character’s design and concept became so popular that she was adopted by the community and developed into a real, functional singer for the UTAU and Synthesizer V voice synthesis programs.
This new collaboration cafe is themed around Teto on a southern, tropical island.
The menu features a variety of food and drinks inspired by this theme and the character herself.
Dishes include the “Tetopical☆TD Village Locomoco Bowl” and a side of “Twin-Drill Garlic Potatoes,” which are shaped to look like her iconic, drill-like pigtails.
Two different bonus gift campaigns are being held at the cafe.
For every collaboration menu item ordered, customers will receive one of seven possible exclusive coasters at random.
Additionally, for every ¥4,400 spent at the cafe, customers will also receive one of four possible exclusive postcards, also at random.
A line of exclusive merchandise is also being sold, featuring new, original illustrations of Teto in her tropical-themed outfit, in both full-scale and chibi-style art.
The “Teto! Teto! TropiPop!” collaboration cafe is scheduled to run from today until Sunday, the 24th of August, 2025.
