New Bungo Stray Dogs mobile game finally launches after “serious bug” causes delay
NextNinja has officially launched the smartphone game Gakuen Bungo Stray Dogs on iOS and Android devices.
This release comes as a relief to eager fans, following a significant last-minute delay that occurred last month.
The game was originally scheduled to launch on November 6, 2025, but was postponed just twenty-four hours before its debut.
At the time, the developer cited the discovery of a “serious bug” during the final verification stages as the primary reason for the hold.
The development team has since prioritized fixing these critical issues to ensure a stable and polished experience for the official release.
Gakuen Bungo Stray Dogs offers a distinct departure from the main canon of the popular franchise.
The original Bungo Stray Dogs series is famous for featuring characters named after legendary literary authors who battle using supernatural abilities.
This new mobile title reimagines that world, placing the cast in a “School” (Gakuen) setting for a “youth adventure” experience.
Players will see familiar faces like Nakajima Atsushi, Dazai Osamu, Oda Sakunosuke, and Akutagawa Ryunosuke in a completely new light.
Instead of life-or-death battles in the port city of Yokohama, the characters will navigate the dramas and events of student life.
The concept of the story allows for interactions between characters that might be impossible in the main timeline due to plot constraints.
This alternate reality setting provides a lighter, more slice-of-life atmosphere compared to the often dark and action-heavy original series.
The game features high-quality production assets, including an opening movie animated by 10GAUGE.
This is the same studio responsible for the promotional videos of the main anime series, ensuring visual consistency for fans.
The musical score also features a theme song by the renowned rock duo GRANRODEO, who are frequent contributors to the franchise.
To celebrate the launch, NextNinja has initiated several promotional campaigns for new players.
Because the game successfully surpassed 500,000 pre-registrations, a variety of helpful in-game items are being distributed to all users upon login.
Additionally, a campaign on the official X (formerly Twitter) account offers the chance to win 24 types of wallpapers and gift codes via lottery.
A main story promotional video has also been released, previewing the narrative from the Prologue up to Chapter 3.
Players should note that while the game is live, the content for Chapter 3 is scheduled to be added in a future update.
