New and Exclusive Ukiyo-e Gunpla Kit Gives the ν Gundam a Japanese-Inspired Redesign

Bandai has revealed a distinctly Japanese take on one of Gundam’s most famous mobile suits, with the ν Gundam receiving a new ukiyo-e-inspired design for a new and exclusive Gunpla kit arriving later this month.

The ENTRY GRADE 1/144 ν Gundam [Ukiyo-e Package Ver.] draws on traditional Japanese art for both its newly created packaging and accompanying decorative stickers, giving the familiar model a very different identity from the standard release.

The ν Gundam first appeared in the 1988 movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack as the final mobile suit personally designed for Amuro Ray, playing a central role in the climactic confrontation between Amuro and his longtime rival Char Aznable.

Rather than changing the underlying model itself, the new release uses the accessible ENTRY GRADE ν Gundam as its foundation while introducing the exclusive ukiyo-e presentation and Japanese-pattern stickers that define this version.

The ENTRY GRADE 1/144 ν Gundam [Ukiyo-e Package Ver.], priced at ¥1,760 (approx. $11 USD / £8 GBP), retains the line’s tool-free Touch Gate construction, broad articulation, beam rifle and shield, while weapons from the separately sold HGUC 1/144 RX-93 ν Gundam can also be equipped.

Its emphasis on traditional artwork makes the packaging itself a significant part of the release, turning an otherwise familiar entry-level kit into something aimed just as much at collectors as newer builders.

Bandai is also releasing the RG 1/144 Gundam Base Limited ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP [Clear Color], priced at ¥4,400 (approx. $28 USD / £21 GBP), transforming the version based on Shanghai’s life-size Freedom Gundam statue with transparent armor.

The Real Grade kit comes with newly incorporated landing gear and open hand parts, allowing builders to reproduce the distinctive pose used by the Shanghai statue.

Realistic decals recreate the mobile suit’s markings and metallic details, with the complete weapon selection including a beam rifle, beam sabers, and shield.

Both Gunpla kits are Gundam Base exclusive releases, with the clear-color Freedom Gundam going on sale at participating stores in Japan on August 22, 2026.

The ENTRY GRADE ν Gundam [Ukiyo-e Package Ver.] will then be released on August 29, 2026.

Bandai has yet to confirm a wider international release for the two new exclusive kits, though they may appear through Premium Bandai US some time after their initial Japanese debut.
