McDonald’s Japan teases collaboration with hololive’s Houshou Marine

The official social media account for McDonald’s Japan has posted a teaser image that points toward an upcoming collaboration with the VTuber group hololive.
The post, which went live today, Tuesday, July 15th, features a silhouette that is unmistakably that of the hololive talent, Houshou Marine.

This announcement comes after McDonald’s Japan teased another collaboration with a major franchise earlier this week, posting an image that showed the silhouette of three popular Pokémon.

Houshou Marine is one of the most popular virtual YouTubers in the world, known for her “pirate captain” persona, her outgoing personality, and her massive global fanbase.

The teaser image is accompanied by the copyright notice for Cover Corporation, the parent company of hololive, which all but confirms an official partnership is underway.

Further reinforcing the connection to Houshou Marine, the post includes the phrase, “Finally, tomorrow, 7/16 (Wed), we set sail for Hawaii!”
The reference to “setting sail” is a direct nod to the VTuber’s pirate captain theme.

This teaser appears to be directly linked to a new seasonal menu that McDonald’s Japan is scheduled to launch.
The company is set to release its “Hawaiian Burgers” campaign on Wednesday, July 16th.

It is highly probable that Houshou Marine will serve as a promotional ambassador or be featured in some capacity as part of this new menu’s launch.
This type of collaboration, where a major fast-food chain partners with a top-tier virtual talent, has become an increasingly common and effective marketing strategy in Japan.

These partnerships leverage the dedicated fanbases of VTubers to generate significant excitement and social media engagement for new product releases.
The full details of the collaboration have not yet been officially announced.
However, based on the teaser, fans can expect a full reveal tomorrow, coinciding with the launch of the new “Hawaiian Burgers” menu.
