McDonald’s Japan announces new Pokémon Happy Meal to include special Pikachu promo card

McDonald’s Japan has officially announced that its next “Happy Meal” promotion will feature the world of Pokémon and will include a super limited-time trading card giveaway.
The new campaign continues a long and popular tradition of collaborations between the fast-food giant and The Pokémon Company in Japan.

These partnerships, which typically feature exclusive toys or other items in the children’s Happy Meal meals, are a recurring and successful event for both brands.
McDonald’s Japan is currently running a Hello Kitty-themed summer Happy Meal, and has also recently announced a collaboration with popular VTuber Houshou Marine.

The new Happy Meal promotion, which will include a new line of Pokémon toys, is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 8th.
This new collaboration was teased by McDonald’s Japan earlier this week, with an image featuring silhouettes of three Pokémon appearing on their social media accounts.

So far, the promotional images only show toys of Pikachu and Charmander, however, other toys will likely appear in the Happy Meals when they officially launch.

In addition to the main toy line, a special bonus campaign will run for a very limited time over the first weekend.
From Saturday, August 9th, through Monday, August 11th, customers who purchase a Happy Meal will receive a special pack of Pokémon Trading Card Game cards.

Each promotional pack will contain a total of two cards.
One is a guaranteed card featuring the franchise mascot, Pikachu, with a unique illustration of the character reaching for a hamburger.

The second card will be one of five possible characters, given out at random.
The five Pokémon in this random pool are Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, which are the three starter Pokémon from the recent Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games, as well as the characters Ralts and Riolu.

This promotional card distribution will only be available while supplies last and may end early if stock runs out.
The company also noted that there is a possibility the promotional cards may be distributed again through a different method in the future.
With recent collaborations with popular series such as Chiikawa leading to rampant reseller activity, Pokémon fans will be hoping that McDonald’s Japan implements a strict purchase limit to avoid all of the exclusive trading cards being bought by those looking to sell them on for a profit.
