McDonald’s Japan and Square Enix team up for new Dragon Quest collab

McDonald’s Japan has launched a unique lottery campaign for a new collaborative merchandise set that fuses the world of fast food with one of the most enduring role-playing game franchises in history.
This partnership with Square Enix reimagines the restaurant’s iconic mascot characters by blending them with the most recognizable monster from the Dragon Quest series to create a playful desk accessory.

The “Slime in Slime” collection is a set of five nesting figures designed in the style of traditional matryoshka dolls.

The items allow users to stack them inside one another for compact storage or display them in a row to showcase the size gradation.

The iconic tear-drop shaped monster serves as the base silhouette for every character in the set, as they are famous in the games for gathering in large groups.
The set includes a standard blue Slime alongside four unique variations that incorporate the traits of McDonaldland citizens.

The lineup features a Grimace Slime that adopts the purple hue of the lovable taste-bud monster and a Birdie Slime wearing the early bird’s signature goggles.

A Hamburglar Slime dons the famous striped prisoner outfit and hat, whilst a tiny Metal Slime completes the set as the smallest hidden treasure within the stack.

Acquiring this limited edition set requires participation in a lottery system accessed via the official McDonald’s Japan app.
Customers must redeem 50 “My McDonald’s Rewards” points to enter the draw.

Those who choose to pay via mobile order receive an additional entry, increasing their chances of winning the right to purchase the item.
The application period is currently open and runs until January 7, 2026, with winners scheduled to be notified starting January 15.

Successful applicants will then be able to purchase and pick up their reserved sets at their designated store between January 19 and January 25, as delivery options are not available for this exclusive promotion.

The complete five-piece set is priced at 2,990 yen (approx. $20.00 USD / £16.00 GBP).
This release adds to a busy month for Square Enix merchandise collectors as it joins the recently announced Dragon Quest Walk XL Slamichi Plush and new Final Fantasy VII Polygon Soft Vinyl figures of Red XIII and Barret.
