Legendary manga The Fable is getting its first-ever video game

The first-ever video game adaptation of the hit manga series “The Fable” has been officially announced by Kodansha Game Lab.

The new title, The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike, is a unique fusion of a tactical puzzle game and a roguelike, and is scheduled to be released for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

The Fable, created by Katsuhisa Minami, is a massively popular, award-winning manga series that has sold over 28 million copies and has also been adapted into a successful live-action film starring Junichi Okada.

This new game translates the world of the genius hitman, Akira Sato, into a unique “Manga Build Battle” system.

In this system, the player arranges “koma,” or manga panels, onto a page to input commands and determine their actions for that turn.

Each panel has a different effect, such as an attack, a movement, or a defensive action, and the order in which they are placed on the page is crucial for success.

Players will be able to choose from one of three different playable characters, each with their own unique battle style and set of “koma.”

The three characters are:

Akira

A genius of killing who uses a combination of melee and ranged attacks to take down enemies head-on.

Yoko

Akira’s partner, who uses nimble footwork to confound her enemies and deliver powerful attacks from behind.

Suzuki

A ruthless hitman who uses a technical style of combat, employing guns, traps, and debuffs to corner his opponents.

The game will also feature a dedicated “Puzzle Mode,” which challenges players to defeat all enemies on a stage within a single turn.

In addition to the main combat, the game is also packed with bonus content and mini-games that faithfully recreate famous scenes from the original manga, including a drinking contest mini-game with the character Ebihara.
