Kyoto’s Nintendo Museum officially opens its new “Art Gallery” area

Kyoto’s Nintendo Museum has officially opened a new “Art Gallery” area, which is set to offer fans an insight into the creative processes behind some of the company’s most popular games.
The Nintendo Museum is a facility dedicated to the long and storied history of the video game company, which first opened its doors in October of 2024.

The museum is located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, on the site of the former Uji Ogura factory, a plant that was once used to manufacture and repair Nintendo’s products.

It features a wide range of exhibits showcasing the company’s evolution, from its origins as a “Hanafuda” playing card manufacturer to its current status as a global leader in electronic entertainment.

While the existence of an art gallery was mentioned by the legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto prior to the museum’s opening, the area was not accessible when the facility first launched.
This new area is a dedicated space that allows visitors to enjoy a collection of character image illustrations, concept art, and other game development materials.
Official images released for the gallery’s opening confirm that it includes displays for the popular The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon franchises.
In his earlier interview, Miyamoto had stated that the gallery would feature a wide range of artwork, from early design sketches of classic characters to illustrations from contemporary hits like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

This new addition to the museum offers fans a rare and valuable glimpse into the artistic and creative process behind some of the world’s most famous video games.
The “Art Gallery” at the Nintendo Museum officially opened to the public on Wednesday, the 3rd of September, 2025.
