Kohei Horikoshi Announces First New Manga Since My Hero Academia
Kohei Horikoshi is returning to Weekly Shonen Jump with an all-new one-shot manga, marking his first original work since My Hero Academia concluded in 2024.
My Hero Academia became one of the defining manga series of the past decade, following Izuku Midoriya’s journey to become a professional hero and growing into a worldwide hit across manga, anime, movies, and video games.
Horikoshi’s new story, tentatively titled “Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san,” moves away from superheroes in favor of a blend of youthful romance and horror, combining a classic boy-meets-girl setup with a darker supernatural atmosphere.
The one-shot will span an impressive 61 pages and open with a full-color lead page, making it a substantial return rather than a brief bonus chapter.
Preview artwork released alongside the announcement offers a first look at the story’s male and female protagonists, hinting at the eerie tone that will define Horikoshi’s latest work.
The release is particularly significant because it marks Horikoshi’s first appearance in Weekly Shonen Jump in nearly two years, giving readers their first chance to experience an entirely new world created by the artist since My Hero Academia reached its conclusion.
“Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san” will debut in Weekly Shonen Jump’s combined Issues 37 and 38, which go on sale in Japan on August 10, 2026.
The same combined issue will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of KochiKame with a special feature supervised by horror novelist Sekisui, alongside an exclusive illustrated collectible card drawn by series creator Osamu Akimoto.
