Japan’s Nintendo Museum releases new official book as first anniversary celebrations get underway

The Nintendo Museum is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of an exclusive, new book and a variety of in-person events themed around the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise.

The museum, which is located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, first opened its doors one year ago, on the 2nd of October, 2024.

To commemorate this one-year milestone, the “Nintendo Museum Official Book Vol. 1” has been released.

This book provides a deeper insight into the various exhibits at the museum and also contains a special feature celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

The book is available in both Japanese and English.

In addition to the new book, a number of special events are being held at the museum to celebrate Mario’s 40th anniversary.

A special, limited-edition admission pass with a Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary design is now being given to visitors.

Visitors can choose between the 40th anniversary pass and a pass showing their Mii.

A special light-up of the facility is also planned to be held.

A new, 40th-anniversary logo object has also been added to the museum’s popular “warp pipe” photo spot.

The Nintendo Museum is an official archive that showcases the long and storied history of the company’s products, from its origins as a playing card manufacturer to its modern video games.

It features a wide range of interactive exhibits and workshops, as well as a recently opened Art Gallery.

The “Nintendo Museum Official Book Vol. 1” is priced at ¥1,650, and it is being sold exclusively at the Art Gallery on the second floor of the Nintendo Museum.

The special, 40th-anniversary light-up of the museum is scheduled to be held from the 3rd of December, 2025, to the 27th of April, 2026.
