Japan’s bizarre Pac-Man shaped musical instrument gets a deluxe upgrade

Pac Man Otamatone

Bandai Namco Entertainment’s iconic video game character, Pac-Man, is once again collaborating with the quirky musical toy, the Otamatone, to release a new, larger version: the “Otamatone Deluxe Pac-Man Ver.”

The Otamatone, known for its distinctive shape and unique method of producing sound by sliding a finger up and down its stem, has garnered a cult following among music enthusiasts and novelty collectors alike.

The “mouth” of an Otamatone can be opened and closed by the player, allowing the creation of “wah-wah” style sounds.

This makes Pac-Man, with his mouth that opens and closes as he eats his way around the game’s maze, the perfect fit for the unique musical instrument.

This isn’t the first time the maze-chasing hero has teamed up with the musical gadget.

A normal-sized “Pac-Man x Otamatone” collaboration model was released in December 2024.

Now, fans can look forward to a more substantial and potentially even more playable version with the “Otamatone Deluxe.”

The “Otamatone Deluxe” is significantly larger than the standard model, which typically makes it easier for users to play and control the sound, allowing for a more comfortable musical experience.

This Pac-Man themed deluxe version promises to combine the fun of the classic arcade game with the whimsical sounds of the Otamatone, offering a unique collectible and musical instrument for fans of both.

The “Otamatone Deluxe Pac-Man Ver.” does not yet have a release date, however the price has been confirmed as ¥10,780 (approximately £55 GBP/$70 USD).

Keep an eye out for further announcements on the exact release date to grab your own Pac-Man themed Otamatone and start composing your own retro-arcade tunes!
