HORI and Sanrio Reveal New Pompompurin Switch 2 Controller and Accessory Kit
Sanrio’s Pompompurin is getting a new collection of officially licensed Nintendo Switch 2 accessories from HORI, pairing a full-size wireless controller with a matching console decoration kit.
The new “Pompompurin Wireless HORIPAD TURBO” uses a translucent yellow body covered with illustrations of the popular golden retriever, with Pompompurin positioned behind the stick openings so he appears to peek out as they are moved during gameplay.
The controller arrives during Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary year, which has already seen the character take first place in the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking for a second consecutive year after receiving more than seven million votes.
HORI’s new controller uses TMR analog sticks, which rely on contactless magnetic sensors that are less susceptible to the physical wear responsible for some of the input problems that can develop in conventional stick mechanisms.
Gyro and acceleration sensors are also included alongside a dedicated C Button for accessing GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2 and programmable controls that can be reassigned around different games and play styles.
Its Turbo and Turbo Hold functions support repeated inputs at approximately 5, 10 or 20 presses per second, while individual button functions can be duplicated, swapped or disabled.
Two-button combinations can also be assigned to a single input, with up to two different control profiles stored directly on the controller so customized layouts can be switched without setting everything up again.
A button-lock function can disable selected central controls to reduce accidental presses, particularly useful for buttons such as HOME, Capture, HORI, + and – during gameplay.
HORI has given the controller slightly narrower grips that curve inward to accommodate a broader range of hand sizes, with the finished unit weighing approximately 235g.
Wireless connectivity is handled through Bluetooth 5.0, with around 10 hours of continuous use available from a full charge and approximately three hours needed to recharge the battery.
The Pompompurin HORIPAD can be used with Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and OLED model, although vibration, amiibo scanning, headset connectivity and waking a console from sleep are not supported.
Pompompurin is also getting a matching “Decoration Kit with Plush Toy” created specifically for Nintendo Switch 2, combining character artwork with several practical accessories for the console.
The included decoration sheets cover the rear of the Switch 2 itself and both Joy-Con 2 controllers, using yellow Pompompurin artwork to give the system a coordinated appearance without replacing any of its exterior parts.
A small Pompompurin plush is included alongside the sheets, measuring approximately 9.8cm wide and recreating his familiar floppy ears and brown beret.
The plush also works as a screen cleaner and can be attached to a pouch or bag when it is not being used with the console.
A glossy screen protector completes the set, with an anti-smudge coating designed to reduce fingerprints and HORI’s “Pita Paste” application system intended to make positioning the film easier before it is fixed to the display.
Kuromi and Cinnamoroll are also receiving their own versions of the Wireless HORIPAD TURBO and Decoration Kit, with each range using different character artwork and plush accessories to match its respective Sanrio mascot.
The “Pompompurin Wireless HORIPAD TURBO” is scheduled for release in Japan in October 2026 for ¥8,980 (approximately $58 USD / £43 GBP), with pre-orders currently available through retailers including Amazon Japan and HORI’s own store.
The “Pompompurin Decoration Kit with Plush Toy” will follow in November 2026 for ¥2,990 (approximately $19 USD / £14 GBP), with reservations also available through HORI and Japanese electronic goods retailers.
