hololive’s next indie game is a Papers, Please-style inspection game to spot fake VTubers

A new, official fan-made game has been announced under the “holo Indie” brand—a “VTuber Entrance Inspection Quiz Game” titled Hologuard.

“holo Indie” is the official secondary creation game brand from hololive’s parent company, Cover, which also recently announced the 2.5D fighting game hololive Fantasy Battle.

This new title, developed by illuCalab, puts a Papers, Please-style twist on the hololive fan experience.

In Hologuard, players take on the role of a trainee receptionist at the hololive main office.

Their job is to inspect the hololive talents who arrive for work, checking their ID cards and profiles for any mistakes or inconsistencies.

Players will even have to conduct simple hearings to determine if the talent is the “real deal” or an “impostor.”

The stakes are high for a trainee: if you accidentally let an impostor through, they might steal the real talent’s favorite things or, even worse, steal secrets revealing a talent’s “dark history.”

If you incorrectly deny entry to a real talent, you’ll get in trouble with the higher-ups.

The game will test a player’s “hololive love” and deep knowledge of the talents’ lore and stream history.

It will feature two different game modes: a “Normal Mode” where the player must successfully survive a 7-day work week, and an “Infinite Mode,” a high-score challenge where a single mistake will end the game.

Hologuard will feature a lineup of over 16 different hololive members and will be playable in both Japanese and English.

The game is scheduled to be released for PC via Steam on an as yet unannounced date in 2025 and it will be priced at ¥500 (approx. $3.40 USD / £2.70 GBP).

The Steam store page for Hologuard is now live, and a new official trailer has also been released via YouTube:
