hololive announces new partnership with Koei Tecmo Games

The Japanese game publisher Koei Tecmo Games has entered into a comprehensive licensing agreement with Cover Corporation.
Cover Corporation is the parent company of hololive production, one of the world’s largest agencies for virtual YouTubers, or VTubers.
The deal was formally announced on Wednesday, July 9th.

The popularity of hololive’s VTubers has led to collaborations with brands as diverse as Converse, the LA Dodgers, and the videogame Death Stranding 2.
These digital entertainers use animated avatars to stream a variety of content, with video game streams being a cornerstone of their activities.

Koei Tecmo is a long-standing publisher and developer with an extensive catalog of popular game franchises, including the Dynasty Warriors, Nioh, and Atelier series.
This new comprehensive agreement grants the talents affiliated with Cover Corporation pre-approved permission to stream and create content using Koei Tecmo’s copyrighted games.

Previously, streaming permissions often had to be sought on a per-game or per-instance basis, which could be a complex and uncertain process.

This type of blanket license streamlines the legal framework, providing stability and creative freedom for the streamers.
In its announcement, Cover Corporation stated that it views game streaming as an important communication tool that allows its talents to share their enjoyment of games with their fanbases.

The company emphasized that this agreement is part of its ongoing effort to build a healthy and secure environment for its streamers to conduct their activities.

For game publishers like Koei Tecmo, these types of deal acknowledge the significant promotional power of VTubers.
Streams by popular hololive talents can introduce games to massive audiences, effectively serving as organic marketing and driving interest in both new and existing titles.

The agreement represents a deepening of the symbiotic relationship between game companies and the content creators who play their games.
It ensures that the talents can continue to produce engaging content for fans while the publisher benefits from the increased visibility.
