HIBIYA Magic Time Illumination Returns for 2025 with Zootopia 2, Shakira and New Christmas Market

Tokyo Midtown Hibiya will launch its annual winter celebration, “HIBIYA Magic Time Illumination 2025,” on Thursday, November 13th.

This year’s event, centered on the concept of “magical moments,” is headlined by a major collaboration with Disney’s upcoming film “Zootopia 2,” featuring a special performance set to the new song “Zoo” by Shakira.

The event will also see the debut of a new “ETERNAL HEART TREE” and the area’s first-ever Christmas Marche.

Event Overview

The illuminations will light up the Hibiya area from November 13, 2025, to February 28, 2026, with different attractions running on varying schedules.

“Zootopia 2” presents HIBIYA Magic Time SQUARE

This main display at Hibiya Step Square will immerse visitors in the world of “Zootopia 2” from November 13th to December 25th.

An 8-meter-tall main tree will be decorated with ornaments inspired by the film’s animals. Every 30 minutes, a special 90-second light and music show will play, featuring Shakira’s new song “Zoo.”

ETERNAL HEART TREE

Debuting this year, this new tree will be located on the Hibiya Step Plaza stairs from November 13th to February 15th.

The katsura tree (whose flower language is “immutability”) will feature sparkling silver-white illuminations and a single, twinkling red heart ornament.

HIBIYA AREA ILLUMINATION

The surrounding Hibiya Nakadori Street will be lit based on the theme of “music.” The display will change partway through its run:

• Phase 1 (Nov 13 – Dec 25): “Hot Jazz” theme, with dynamic, sparkling lights.

• Phase 2 (Dec 26 – Feb 28): “Nocturne” theme, featuring deep blue lights to create a fantastical night scene.

Illuminations Around Hibiya

Other locations in the area will also participate in the illuminations:

• Hibiya Chanter (Nov 20 – Dec 25): A traditional American Christmas theme with red and gold, centered around a fireplace display.

• Imperial Hotel Tokyo (Nov 3 – Feb 14): Celebrating its 135th anniversary with a “Beautiful Surprise” theme, featuring crimson roses and 135th-anniversary ornaments.

• Hibiya Park (Dec 13 – 14): Hosting the “HIBIYA PARK TERRACE Xmas Design Market” with an eco-friendly bamboo tree and a stargazing event for the Geminid meteor shower.

Christmas Market

For the first time, Tokyo Midtown Hibiya will introduce a special Christmas market and host the “HIBIYA CHRISTMAS MARCHE 2025.”

• Hours: 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM (13:00-20:00)
• Details: Supported by Creema, Japan’s largest handmade marketplace, the marche will feature 60 creators selling original Christmas wreaths, ornaments, and other goods.

Menu

In time for the Christmas season, restaurants, cafes, and the food hall within Tokyo Midtown Hibiya will offer special menus.

Offerings include luxurious dinner courses featuring specialties like “Boiled Octopus 2018/Sicily” from SALONE TOKYO and “Abalone and Scallop Pie” from RESTAURANT TOYO.

A separate “winter treat menu” will feature seasonal root vegetables, with dishes such as “Sweet potato potage with herb-scented burnt butter espuma” from DRAWING HOUSE OF HIBIYA and “Wagyu beef carne asada and lotus root tacos” from San Antonio TEX-MEX.
