Hatsune Miku’s Latest Nendoroid Recreates One of Her Most Unsettling Songs
Good Smile Company has officially opened pre-orders for a new Nendoroid based on Hatsune Miku’s mysterious appearance in DECO*27’s Monitoring music video.
Hatsune Miku is the virtual singer at the center of Crypton Future Media’s Character Vocal Series 01, with her synthesized voice and instantly recognizable turquoise twin-tails inspiring an enormous creative community of musicians, illustrators and animators around the world.
DECO*27 has played a major role in that community since beginning to publish Vocaloid music in 2008, combining rock and electronic influences with catchy melodies and distinctive wordplay that frequently explores love, attraction and the messier emotions surrounding relationships.
Released in November 2024, Monitoring begins its story with Miku peering through a door’s peephole, while the deliberately ambiguous lyrics leave the nature of her relationship with the unseen person open to interpretation.
The song initially presents Miku as someone offering comfort and emotional support, but her knowledge of private moments and insistence on watching from the other side of the door give that affection a more possessive and unsettling edge.
This tension between concern and intrusion is central to the music video’s appeal, inviting you to question whether Miku is protecting someone who needs her or monitoring someone who may not want to be watched.
The new “Nendoroid Hatsune Miku Monitoring Ver.” translates that eerie but playful interpretation of Miku into Good Smile Company’s signature chibi style without losing the details that make her appearance immediately recognizable.
Standing approximately 10 cm tall, the figure recreates Miku’s outfit, eyepatch and watchful expression from the video, giving the smaller proportions a noticeably different atmosphere from her more cheerful and colorful Nendoroid releases.
Three interchangeable face plates are included, consisting of a peeking face, a smile and a closed-eye smile that allow you to move between the suspicious, affectionate and deceptively friendly sides of her presentation in the song.
The peeking expression is particularly important to the release, as it recreates the door-viewing imagery that introduces the music video and became one of the most memorable visual elements associated with Monitoring.
Optional accessories include a smartphone and bouquet of flowers, providing additional ways to recreate scenes and imagery connected to Miku’s attempts to reach the person on the other side of the door.
The figure was sculpted by toytec D.T.C with production cooperation from Nendoron, while anyone who orders directly from the Good Smile Company Official Shop will receive an exclusive special base inspired by the song.
The “Nendoroid Hatsune Miku Monitoring Ver.” is priced at ¥7,800 (approx. $53 USD / £39 GBP) and is available to pre-order through the Good Smile Company Official Shop and other reputable hobby goods retailers such as HobbyLink Japan.
The figure is scheduled for release in January 2027.
