Bandai has revealed a new clear-color Real Grade take on the Freedom Gundam, transforming the version based on Shanghai’s life-size statue into a new and exclusive Gunpla kit set for release later this month.

The ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam first appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED as Kira Yamato’s second main mobile suit, becoming one of the Cosmic Era’s most recognizable machines through its winged silhouette, high mobility, and powerful ranged weaponry.

The new RG 1/144 Gundam Base Limited ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP [Clear Color], priced at ¥4,400 (approx. $28 USD / £21 GBP), is based specifically on the full-scale statue installed outside Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao rather than the standard anime design.

Shanghai’s Freedom Gundam statue officially debuted on May 28, 2021, standing 18 meters tall and weighing around 50 tons, becoming the first life-size Gundam statue to be permanently displayed outside Japan.

The statue was developed with its own revised exterior details and pose, with the original “Ver.GCP” concept artwork drawn by Mobile Suit Gundam SEED chief mechanical animation director Satoshi Shigeta before the full-size installation was completed.

Bandai’s new clear-color kit preserves the distinctive panel lines and precise color separation of that statue-inspired Ver.GCP design, while the transparent armor exposes more of the layered Real Grade construction underneath.

Special landing gear and open hand parts allow the completed model to reproduce the same grounded pose used by the Shanghai statue, making the real-world installation a major part of how the kit can be displayed.

Realistic decals add the markings and metallic details seen across the machine, while the included beam rifle, beam sabers and shield give the Freedom its familiar combat equipment.

Bandai is also set to release another exclusive Gunpla kit this month, the ENTRY GRADE 1/144 ν Gundam [Ukiyo-e Package Ver.], priced at ¥1,760 (approx. $11 USD / £8 GBP), which gives the familiar Char’s Counterattack mobile suit newly illustrated ukiyo-e packaging and traditional Japanese-pattern marking stickers.

The ν Gundam retains the ENTRY GRADE line’s tool-free Touch Gate construction and broad articulation, while its beam rifle and shield are included and weapons from the separately sold HGUC 1/144 RX-93 ν Gundam can also be equipped.
