Gundam fans can now stay in the world’s first ever Gunpla themed hotel room

A major new Gundam collaboration is set to launch across 32 locations of the WHG Hotels group in Japan.
The “Operation Gundam R with WHG HOTELS” initiative is a joint project between WHG Hotels and the “Mobile Suit Gundam” franchise, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.
WHG Hotels is the collective brand name for the Washington Hotel, Hotel Gracery, and Hotel Tavinos chains.

The collaboration will feature two main components: a massive Gunpla giveaway and the opening of special Gundam themed hotel rooms.
This campaign is an expansion of the “Gunpla Recycle Project”, an initiative led by BANDAI SPIRITS to promote a circular economy.
In this project, plastic runners (the frames that hold model kit parts) are collected from Gunpla builders and recycled into new model kits, known as “Ecopla”.

Ecopla kits are made from this recycled plastic, contributing to a more sustainable manufacturing process.
Last year, the Gunpla Recycle Project collected approximately 3.2 tons of runners from around 148,000 participants at various events across Japan.
Project 1: Nationwide Ecopla Giveaway

As part of the initiative, WHG Hotels will distribute a total of 100,000 “Ecopla” Gunpla experience kits to elementary school students staying at any of the 32 participating hotels nationwide.
The kit is the “Ecopla 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Assembly Experience Ver.” a simplified model of the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam, the protagonist’s mobile suit from the original 1979 anime series.
These kits are designed for easy assembly without the need for tools, making them perfect for children new to the hobby.

To further encourage recycling and raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), each hotel will have designated collection boxes for used runners.
The giveaway will run from July 15th to August 31st, with kits available while supplies last for elementary school students checking out at a participating hotel.

The participating WHG Hotels facilities include 21 Washington Hotels, 8 Hotel Gracery locations, and 3 Hotel Tavinos locations across Japan, including major cities such as Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, Sapporo, and Hiroshima.
Project 2: “MG RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver.3.0” Collaboration Rooms

The highlight of the collaboration is the launch of the world’s first hotel room themed after a RX-78-2 Gundam Gunpla kit.
The “MG RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver.3.0” rooms are special themed rooms that will be available for a limited time at three WHG Hotels properties:
- Tokyo Bay Ariake Washington Hotel
- Hotel Gracery Tamachi (Tokyo)
- Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel
To celebrate the launch of the themed collaboration rooms, all guests staying at the three hotels listed will also receive the “Ecopla 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Assembly Experience Ver.” kit during the campaign period.
Each of these hotels will feature one twin room transformed into a “Gunpla-building immersive space”.

Key features of these rooms include:
- Exclusive Mural:
- A newly designed trick-art mural that creates the illusion of a Gunpla-building “cockpit”, with desks on three sides surrounding the guest to evoke the feeling of piloting a mobile suit.
- Diorama Displays:
- The room will be decorated with dioramas of completed Gunpla kits, providing creative inspiration for guests as they build their own models.
- Specialized Desk:
- A desk designed for “serious” Gunpla building, with spaces for decals, parts, and a variety of tools.
- Photo Stage:
- A dedicated photography area, complete with a diorama mini stage and a bed cover with a lunar surface design, allowing guests to take professional-looking photos of their completed kits or any models they bring with them.
As a special gift, guests staying in these collaboration rooms will receive an exclusive “Master Grade (MG) 1/100 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.3.0 Ecopla” model kit with a unique “Recirculation Color/Neon Green” color scheme.

This Master Grade kit is a larger, more complex model compared to the standard 1/144 scale and is typically designed for more experienced builders, providing a rewarding experience for adult fans.

Reservations for these unique rooms are now being accepted and bookings are available for stays from July 15th to August 31st, with sales split into two phases based on the check-out date.

Rooms can currently be booked for stays between July 15th and August 15th.
On July 15th, bookings for all additional dates allowed and the rooms can be booked for stays up to August 31st.
The rooms are priced at 45,000 yen (approx. $311 USD / £227 GBP) per night, which includes breakfast for up to two occupants.
