Godzilla’s Original 1954 Movie Inspires New Limited Edition Solar Chronograph
Godzilla is getting a new premium chronograph watch that turns some of the original monster’s most recognizable imagery into surprisingly subtle details, including a diamond-set Oxygen Destroyer and a second hand inspired by his atomic breath.
The “Godzilla Radio Solar Chronograph” uses an almost entirely matte-black finish, with raised patterns across the dial recreating the cracks left behind by Godzilla’s destruction.
Its most prominent reference sits at the 12 o’clock position, where the Oxygen Destroyer from the original 1954 Godzilla movie has been recreated with a natural diamond set directly into its center.
A bright blue second hand provides the biggest contrast against the otherwise dark design and takes its coloring from Godzilla’s blue atomic breath.
The references continue on the rear of the watch, which is engraved with Godzilla’s footprint, the franchise logo and an individual serial number.
Two interchangeable straps are included, giving owners a choice between a matte-black stainless steel bracelet and a cowhide leather strap textured to resemble Godzilla’s rough skin and finished with red stitching.
A simple adjustment tool is supplied for switching between them, while the watch is presented inside a dedicated box accompanied by a guarantee card styled after the poster for the original 1954 movie.
The chronograph also includes considerably more practical technology than its movie-inspired appearance might suggest, combining solar charging with automatic radio-controlled time adjustment.
Light from the sun or indoor lighting is converted into stored power, removing the need for conventional battery replacements, while a full charge can provide around six months of operation when its power-saving function is active.
Within Japan, the watch can also receive the country’s 40 kHz and 60 kHz standard time signals and automatically correct itself without manual adjustment when reception is available.
Other specifications include 10 ATM water resistance, a 1/1-second chronograph with 60-second and 60-minute counters, a 40 mm case diameter and crystal glass covering the dial.
Production is limited to 1,954 individually numbered watches worldwide, directly referencing the year that the original Godzilla first reached Japanese theaters.
The release arrives ahead of another major moment for the franchise, with Takashi Yamazaki’s latest movie “Godzilla -0.0” currently scheduled to open in Japan on November 3, 2026.
The “Godzilla Radio Solar Chronograph” is available to pre-order via the official Direct Art Gallery website for ¥49,500 (approx. $317 USD / £235 GBP), with the latest orders currently expected to begin shipping from mid-November 2026.
