Fumiya Takahashi cast as Shin Asakura in live-action SAKAMOTO DAYS movie

A new cast member has been announced for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the popular manga series, SAKAMOTO DAYS.
Fumiya Takahashi will be taking on the role of Shin Asakura, the partner of the film’s protagonist, Taro Sakamoto, who is being played by Ren Meguro of the group Snow Man.

To accompany the announcement, the first character visual of Takahashi as Shin and new footage of his action scenes have also been revealed.

SAKAMOTO DAYS, created by Yuto Suzuki, is a hit action-comedy series from Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump.

The live-action film is being helmed by the acclaimed comedy director, Yuichi Fukuda, who is famous for his work on the Gintama movies.

The new film was first announced last month, revealing Ren Meguro as the lead, a casting choice that was met with a huge, positive response from fans.

The character of Shin Asakura is crucial to the story of SAKAMOTO DAYS.
He is a former assassin with excellent combat skills who now works alongside Sakamoto, and he is also an esper who has the ability to read people’s minds.

This will be Fumiya Takahashi’s first time appearing in a film by Yuichi Fukuda and also his first time taking on a full-scale action role.
In a comment, Takahashi spoke about the challenge, saying:
“I struggled with things I wasn’t used to, but I practiced repeatedly and faced the role with the intention of embodying even a little of Shin’s cool side. During the filming period, I was able to create the character of Shin Asakura with the support of many people, including director Fukuda and Mr. Meguro.”

He also spoke about his co-star, Ren Meguro, drawing a parallel to the relationship between their two characters.
“The first day I met him, I thought, ‘In this project, just like Shin, I should just follow this person’s lead.’ Mr. Meguro is kind, considerate, cool, and can handle action. He is someone I can greatly respect!”
The new character visual and action footage showcase Takahashi’s impressive physical abilities, with him performing many of his own stunts.
The footage highlights his graceful movements and a number of intense and thrilling gun-based action scenes.
Fans can watch the new trailer on YouTube now.
The live-action SAKAMOTO DAYS movie is scheduled to be released during the “Golden Week” holiday in 2026.
