Evangelion burgers launching at McDonald's in 2025

McDonald’s Japan has announced the second part of their collaboration with anime series “Neon Genesis Evangelion”.

The first part of the collaboration saw the announcement of three Evangelion action figures based on a Big Mac®, McFries® and a McShake®.

McDonald’s have now revealed that they will also be bringing three Evangelion themed burgers to Japan!

Each burger features a bun designed with sections that resemble the shape of the A.T. Fields seen in the series.

Two of the three burgers are new to McDonald’s Japan, the first of which is the Chopped Potatoes & Thick Beef Rich and Delicious Garlic Mayo Burger.

This burger features a 100% beef patty and a chopped potato hash brown/croquette style patty with rich garlic mayo sauce.

The second new burger is the Mexican Cheese Chicken Burger.

This burger sees a breaded chicken patty topped with cheese, pickles and taco meat.

Finally, the Cheese Double Teriyaki Burger returns to McDonald’s Japan with two pork patties covered in a teriyaki-flavored sauce and topped with cheese and lettuce.

Each burger will come in Evangelion themed packaging that features either Rei, Asuka or Shinji:

McDonald’s have also announced that on 5th January 2025, a new TV commercial will be aired in Japan to promote the Evangelion Burgers.

Airing in both 30 second and 15 second slots, the advert will introduce a new Evangelion mecha, the “Evangelion Unit-M”, which is styled in the manner of a McDonald’s employee utilising McDonald’s trademark red and gold colors.

The new advert can also be watched on YouTube, although it is region locked and a Japanese VPN connection may be required to watch it.

The advert features a number of iconic scenes from the anime series reimagined with McDonald’s involvement.

McDonald’s have also released a series of short adverts that make use of animation from the original series overdubbed with new voice acting to promote the new Evangelion Burgers.

The McDonald’s Japan x Evangelion collaboration burgers will go on sale from the 6th of January, with no end date for the promotion currently specified.
