Lotteria celebrates Osaka with new Okonomiyaki Burger

Lotteria will be releasing a new burger, exclusively in the Osaka area, inspired by the popular Japanese dish Okonomiyaki.

The upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 has led to a series of Osaka themed seasonal menus at Japan’s fast food restaurants, with Wendy’s Japan recently announcing 4 new Osaka themed menu items.

Okonomiyaki is a “savory pancake” made from batter, shredded cabbage and a variety of fillings and toppings.

The two main styles of Okonomiyaki originated in Hiroshima and Kansai, an area of Japan centered on Osaka.

Lotteria’s new “Okonomiyaki Burger” is designed to offer customers a convenient and accessible way to experience Osaka style okonomiyaki in a burger format.

The main difference between the “Okonomiyaki Burger” and Lotteria’s other burgers lies in the substitution of traditional bread buns with two individual okonomiyaki pancakes.

These okonomiyaki “buns” serve as the outer layers of the burger, encasing a standard hamburger patty.

In addition to the patty and the okonomiyaki buns, the burger incorporates several ingredients commonly found in traditional okonomiyaki.

These include a fried egg, shredded cabbage, pickled ginger (beni shoga), dried bonito flakes (katsuobushi powder), Japanese mayonnaise, and a rich okonomiyaki sauce.

The “Okonomiyaki Burger” will only be available for purchase at participating Lotteria and Zetteria restaurants throughout Osaka Prefecture.

The “Okonomiyaki Burger” will be priced at 590 yen (approx. £3.92 USD /£3.03 GBP).
