Evangelion’s Asuka Becomes a Traditional Japanese Doll for New Premium 30th Anniversary Figure

FuRyu’s premium F:NEX figure brand and historic Japanese doll maker Yoshitoku have officially opened pre-orders for a spectacular new 1/4 scale figure of Rebuild of Evangelion’s Asuka Shikinami Langley, with a matching Rei Ayanami release also joining the collection.
Rebuild of Evangelion is a four-film reimagining of Neon Genesis Evangelion that follows Shinji Ikari and his fellow Eva pilots through a dramatically altered version of the original anime’s story, with Asuka and Rei remaining two of the franchise’s most iconic and enduring characters.

Created to celebrate Evangelion’s 30th anniversary, the figures took around two years to develop and combine F:NEX’s large-scale figure craftsmanship with Yoshitoku’s centuries of experience producing traditional Japanese dolls.

The completed painted prototypes made their public debut during Wonder Festival 2026 Summer as part of FuRyu’s F:NEX exhibition at Makuhari Messe.

Both 1/4 scale figures feature poses inspired by traditional Japanese dance, with Asuka adopting a lively, expressive stance while Rei is portrayed with more graceful and restrained body language.

Each figure is dressed in an authentic two-layer kimono made from genuine fabric rather than sculpted plastic, with every garment individually fitted to recreate the natural layering and elegance of traditional Japanese dolls.

Their kimono color schemes draw inspiration from each character’s signature plug suit, while the obi incorporates hexagonal patterns inspired by Evangelion’s iconic A.T. Field, allowing both figures to complement one another when displayed together.

The costumes were designed by doll artist Ayumi Uyama, with Kyoto textile company Nishimura Shoji Shoten producing the kimono fabrics, Nishijin workshop Morisan supplying the obii, sculptor Kade Taka of Royce Entertainment creating the figures themselves, B_Sachi handling the paintwork, and Yoshitoku completing the traditional costume production and dressing process.

The Rebuild of Evangelion Yoshitoku x F:NEX Asuka Shikinami Langley -Japanese Doll- 1/4 Scale Figure, priced at ¥198,000 (approx. $1,210 USD / £910 GBP), stands approximately 44 cm tall and captures Asuka in a dynamic backward-leaning pose with her arms extended alongside the flowing sleeves of her vivid red kimono, translating her confident personality into the refined style of a traditional Japanese doll.

The matching Rebuild of Evangelion Yoshitoku x F:NEX Rei Ayanami -Japanese Doll- 1/4 Scale Figure, also priced at ¥198,000 (approx. $1,210 USD / £910 GBP), stands approximately 44.5 cm tall and presents Rei in a calm, composed pose with one sleeve draped across her left arm, while her blue, silver, red and salmon-pink kimono reflects the colors of her plug suit and creates a beautiful visual counterpart to Asuka.

Collectors looking to display both together can also purchase a FURYU HOBBY MALL-exclusive two-figure set, priced at ¥396,000 (approx. $2,420 USD / £1,820 GBP), which includes both figures alongside an exclusive decorative folding screen that completes the display.

The collection is available to pre-order through FURYU HOBBY MALL, with eligible international orders available through the retailer’s WorldShopping service, while the pre-order period is scheduled to close on September 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM JST.

The individual figures and exclusive two-figure set are currently scheduled to ship in July 2027.
