Evangelion Reveals Affordable New Official Mari Makinami Model Kit
Image by Charlotte DavisGood Smile Company has officially opened pre-orders for a new Evangelion model kit that will see Mari Makinami Illustrious join their articulated PLAMATEA figure line.
The new “PLAMATEA Mari Makinami Illustrious” recreates the Rebuild of Evangelion pilot in her iconic pink plugsuit, complete with her red glasses, long twin-tails, and a wide selection of interchangeable parts.
Mari made her debut in “Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance” as a mysterious new Eva pilot before later joining WILLE and piloting several different Evangelion units across the Rebuild movies.
Her upbeat personality and obvious enjoyment of piloting immediately separated her from Shinji, Rei, and Asuka, while her later appearances saw her take control of multiple versions of Evangelion Unit-08.
Good Smile has already brought Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley to the PLAMATEA line during 2026, with Mari now joining the pair as another buildable Rebuild of Evangelion pilot.
The plastic model kit uses color-separated runners, pre-painted parts, and decals to recreate Mari’s plugsuit colors without requiring a fully painted finish, while articulated joints throughout the body allow for a wide range of poses.
A pre-painted smiling face is included straight out of the box, alongside three additional expression parts covering a smile, shouting face, and unimpressed look that can be customized with supplied eye decals.
Two versions of Mari’s glasses are also included, with builders able to choose between a pair featuring sculpted lenses and a frames-only option.
Several interchangeable hand parts expand the posing options further, including specially shaped hands designed to hold the Anti-Gigantes Rifle supplied with Good Smile’s separately sold “MODEROID Evangelion Unit-08α” model kit.
This allows Mari to be displayed alongside Unit-08 equipment for a more complete recreation of her Rebuild appearances, while the kit’s articulated stand provides additional support for more dynamic poses.
The completed non-scale model stands approximately 17.5 cm tall, making it a far more accessible piece for fans to build than recent Mari releases such as Volks’ “Absolute Zone 1/4 Mari Makinami Illustrious”, an enormous resin model that reaches approximately 79.5 cm in height.
Pre-orders for “PLAMATEA Mari Makinami Illustrious”, priced at ¥8,700 (approximately $55 / £42), are now available through the Good Smile Company Official Shop and reputable hobby goods retailers such as HobbyLink Japan, ahead of shipping in May 2027.
