Evangelion Fully Unveils Its New Transformers x EVA-02 Collab Figure as Pre-Orders Officially Open

The “SYNERGENEX Transformers Evangelion Prime Unit-02” imagines the next-generation Autobot leader scanning Evangelion Unit-02 and adopting its red and orange armor, six-eyed head design, and weaponry.

The crossover is the second modern Transformers x Evangelion release in Takara Tomy’s SYNERGENEX line, which was created around the idea of combining separate franchises in ways that go beyond straightforward character recolors.

Its first release, “Evangelion Prime Unit-01,” began shipping in Japan at the end of August after reviving the official partnership between the two franchises roughly a decade after their previous collaboration.

That figure combined Optimus Prime with EVA Unit-01, using the Eva’s purple, green, and black color scheme alongside NERV and Autobot markings while still transforming completely between robot and truck modes.

For this second EVA Unit-02-themed release, Takara Tomy has taken inspiration from Rodimus Prime, Optimus’ successor as Autobot leader.

The basic body shares much of its engineering with Evangelion Prime Unit-01, but the chest has been redesigned with armor inspired by Rodimus Prime, and the finished figure adopts Unit-02’s familiar red, orange, and black coloring.

Due to this shared engineering, the figure transforms from robot mode into an Optimus-style truck rather than any of the sports car or RV alt modes more commonly associated with Rodimus.

The head also includes a built-in transformation gimmick that changes its appearance to recreate Unit-02’s six-eyed face, giving the Evangelion influence more presence than the color scheme alone.

A removable Core Matrix is housed inside the chest, with the front armor opening to expose the internal core before it can be detached and fitted to the Matrix accessory.

Takara Tomy has expanded the weapon selection considerably for the second figure, starting with two Photon Pallet Rifles that combine ideas from the weaponry of both franchises and can be held together for dual-wielding poses.

The Spear of Longinus is also included as one of the largest accessories, giving the figure one of Evangelion’s most recognizable weapons while providing a very different silhouette from the first crossover release.

Two Anti-Material Saw Blades complete the main arsenal, with attachment pieces allowing them to be mounted directly onto the figure’s hands or connected to both ends of the Spear of Longinus shaft to create an even larger combined weapon.

A dedicated rear mounting unit allows the included weapons to be stored across the figure’s back when they are not being held, avoiding the need to leave most of the accessory loadout separate from the display.

The new release forms part of Evangelion’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations, which Takara Tomy used as an opportunity to revive its Transformers partnership through SYNERGENEX after the two franchises had spent around a decade without a new official crossover figure.

Pre-orders for the “SYNERGENEX Transformers Evangelion Prime Unit-02” open on September 9, 2026, through reputable hobby goods stores such as HobbyLink Japan.

The figure is priced at ¥11,000 (approximately $71 USD / £53 GBP) and is scheduled for release in late March 2027.
