Drakengard OST drops on streaming services and Steam to celebrate 22nd anniversary
The original soundtrack for the classic action role-playing game Drakengard, known in Japan as Drag-On Dragoon, has been made available on streaming services.
The digital release is a reissue that coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the game’s original launch.
Drakengard, which was first released for the PlayStation 2, is a dark fantasy RPG directed by the acclaimed and eccentric creator, Yoko Taro.
The game is known for its grim and often unsettling storyline, and it serves as the official “origin point” for the universe of the globally popular NieR franchise.
The game’s soundtrack, composed by Nobuyoshi Sano and Takayuki Aihara, is as unique and unconventional as the game itself.
It is a largely experimental score that is designed to capture the chaos, tragedy, and madness of the battlefield, and it has been a sought-after cult classic for many years.
This new digital reissue is a comprehensive collection of the game’s music.
It combines the two separate volumes of the original soundtrack, which were first released on CD, into a single, 47-track album. This includes the main battle themes for the game’s on-foot and dragon-riding aerial combat sections, as well as the different staff roll themes for the game’s multiple endings.
The collection also features two previously unreleased tracks.
This new release offers fans of both the Drakengard and NieR series a new opportunity to experience the unique and influential soundscape of the original game.
The “Drakengard Original Soundtrack [Reissue]” was released on a variety of streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, on Thursday, the 11th of September, 2025, which marks the 22nd anniversary of the game’s original release in 2003.
The soundtrack is also available via Steam, where it is priced at $18.99 USD/£15.89 GBP as standard, though there is currently 20% off the list price until the 24th of September.
