Dragon Ball Super Remake Confirmed, “Beerus Arc” to Air this Fall

The Dragon Ball Super anime series is returning to television screens with a significantly upgraded retelling of its opening saga.
During the “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri” event held today at Makuhari Messe, the franchise producers announced Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a project described as an “Enhanced Version” of the original television anime.

Unveiled during the “New Development Super Announcement! Genkida Stage Part 2,” this series is not merely a remaster but a comprehensive reconstruction of the initial arc, which originally aired in 2015.

Also revealed at the event was a special 40th anniversary animation which takes a look back at the series’ history, accompanied by music by legendary Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer.

The newly announced remake project has been in development for several years with the specific goal of aligning the production quality with the original draft and worldview of creator Akira Toriyama.
The “Enhanced” label refers to a massive overhaul of the visual and audio presentation.
The production team has confirmed that the series will feature the addition of significant new animation cuts, the revision of existing scenes, and a complete reworking of all footage to improve visual fidelity.

The audio has been entirely redone, featuring a new dubbing session with the cast and the addition of new background music and sound effects.
The story focuses on the “God of Destruction Beerus” arc, which was originally depicted in the 2013 film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods before being adapted into the first arc of the Dragon Ball Super TV series.

Historically, the initial broadcast of Dragon Ball Super faced criticism from fans regarding animation quality during these early episodes.
This new project appears to be a definitive response to those concerns, promising to deliver battle scenes with improved intensity and presence.
The announcement was made by executive producer Akio Iyoku, alongside special guests Masako Nozawa (voice of Son Goku) and Koichi Yamadera (voice of Beerus).

Yamadera expressed surprise at the announcement, while Nozawa shared her joy with the audience, celebrating the start of this new initiative.
The stage presentation also revealed a “Super Start” trailer and key visual.

The trailer shows the awakening of Beerus from his long slumber and the subsequent crisis facing Earth, culminating in the universe-shaking battle between the God of Destruction and Goku in his Super Saiyan God form.
This news complements the earlier announcement from the same event regarding the production of Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol, which is set to adapt the manga’s “Galactic Patrol Prisoner” arc.

Together, these two projects represent a two-pronged revitalization of the Dragon Ball Super brand, offering fans both a polished retelling of the story’s beginning and a brand-new continuation of the manga’s story.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is scheduled to begin broadcasting on Fuji TV in the Fall of 2026.
