Dragon Ball Super Anime Set to Return with Galactic Patrol Arc

The Dragon Ball franchise is officially returning to television with a brand new series adaptation of a fan-favorite manga arc.
During the “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri” event held today at Makuhari Messe, it was announced that production has commenced on Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol.

This announcement comes as the franchise celebrates the climax of its 40th-anniversary year.
Original creator Akira Toriyama is credited with the original work, story, and character design for this new project.
The reveal took place during the “New Development Super Announcement! Genkida Stage Part 1,” where executive producer Akio Iyoku and voice actress Masako Nozawa, the legendary voice of Son Goku, surprised fans with the news.

This new anime serves as a direct continuation of the Dragon Ball Super television series, which aired from 2015 to 2018 and concluded with the high-stakes Universe Survival Arc, also known as the Tournament of Power.

Adapting the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner” arc from the manga, the story follows protagonists Goku and Vegeta as they are enlisted by the Galactic Patrol, an intergalactic police force that maintains order throughout the Milky Way, to help recapture an escaped prisoner.

The arc introduces a formidable new antagonist known as Moro, the “Planet-Eater,” an ancient sorcerer who consumes the life energy of planets and poses a threat of “super scale” to the entire universe.

Alongside the announcement, the production committee unveiled the first teaser visual for the series.
The image depicts Goku and Vegeta standing side-by-side with intense expressions, both wearing the Galactic Patrol insignia on their chests, set against a background featuring a large version of the patrol’s logo.

Dragon Ball originally began as a manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984 and has since evolved into a global multimedia monster title, spanning anime, movies, and games.

Since the conclusion of the TV anime, the franchise has continued through theatrical releases such as Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, but fans have long awaited a return to a serialized format.

While a specific broadcast date has not yet been set, the studio has promised that further updates regarding the development of the series will be released in due course.
The “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri” event is currently taking place today, Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba.
