Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton attends grand opening of Tokyo's new Harry Potter store

To celebrate the grand opening of Japan’s first flagship “Harry Potter Shop” in Harajuku, actor Tom Felton, who famously portrayed Draco Malfoy in the film series, made a surprise visit to Japan.

The new store, which is located on the main Omotesando thoroughfare, is an immersive retail experience designed around the theme of the “Forbidden Forest.”

At an opening ceremony held today, Felton was joined by Satoshi Matsushima of the pop group timelesz, who is a well-known and outspoken fan of the Draco Malfoy character.

The two shared an emotional reunion, with Matsushima revealing that he had once waited in line for six hours to get Felton’s autograph nine years ago, a moment that he said was a “precious magic” that supported him through his own career.

Felton praised Matsushima’s Slytherin-themed fashion and, in a surprise of his own, presented him with a custom-made Slytherin T-shirt, before the two shared a celebratory toast with Butterbeer.

The new, 900-square-meter store is designed to immerse visitors in the Wizarding World, with the interior decorated to look like the mysterious forest, complete with a large, life-like display of the Hippogriff, Buckbeak.

The first floor of the shop features a “House Pride” section with goods for all four Hogwarts houses, as well as a large area for Harajuku-exclusive merchandise.

The second floor includes a “Confectionery” corner modeled after Honeydukes, selling treats like Chocolate Frogs, as well as a section for wands and personalized school robes.
