Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Maintains Top 10 Streak as Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Slides

The competitive Japanese box office saw movement for two major anime releases, with Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc slipping a spot while the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle trilogy opener held its ground in the top ten.
The film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular Chainsaw Man manga, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, dipped from the number eight spot to number nine in its sixteenth weekend in theaters.

The movie generated 91,658,400 yen (approximately US$584,500) over the latest Friday to Sunday period.

The film’s total cumulative earnings stand at 10,145,358,600 yen (about US$64.70 million) from the sale of 6.65 million tickets.

The production, based on the Reze Arc, first passed the 10 billion yen milestone after 103 days in release.
It originally opened at number one, selling 807,000 tickets for 1,251,178,500 yen (around US$8.46 million) in its debut weekend.

Its opening replaced the Demon Slayer film which had dominated the box office for nine straight weeks.
Reina Ueda voices the character Reze in the film.

Sony Pictures Entertainment secured the worldwide theatrical rights for the film, bringing it to the United States shortly after its Japanese premiere.
In its twenty-fifth weekend, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai, the first installment of the trilogy, remained at number ten.

The movie added 81,799,700 yen (about US$521,700) over the weekend, bringing its staggering cumulative total to 38,899,623,400 yen (roughly US$248 million).

The success of this film is remarkable; it became the second highest-earning film of all time at the Japanese box office, surpassing the highly acclaimed Studio Ghibli classic Spirited Away.
Globally, the film has cemented its place in history as the highest-earning anime film and the highest-earning Japanese film overall.

It has sold over 89 million tickets worldwide for 106,370,568,950 yen (approximately US$685 million), making it the first Japanese film to ever cross 100 billion yen in global earnings.
It is worth noting that the franchise’s previous cinematic offering, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, still holds the highest-earning film in Japan record with a total of 40.75 billion yen (about US$277 million).

Beyond the major theatrical releases, the 4K remaster of the Satoshi Kon-directed anime film Paprika secured the number one spot in the mini theater rankings during its first week of screening.
