Cosmic Princess Kaguya Surpasses 1 Billion Yen at Japanese Box Office
The original anime film Cosmic Princess Kaguya! has achieved a significant financial milestone by surpassing 1 billion yen (approximately 6.29 million USD) in cumulative box office returns in Japan as of March 17, 2026.
This achievement marks the production as the first original Japanese anime film to reach the 1 billion yen threshold within the year 2026.
Directed by Shingo Yamashita, the movie initially premiered on the streaming platform Netflix on January 22, 2026, before transitioning to a theatrical format.
The film began a limited theatrical run in 19 cinemas across Japan on February 20, 2026, where it secured fifth place in the overall weekend rankings during its first three days.
