Converse announces first-ever collab with Opanchu and Npochamu

CONVERSE OPANCHU

Converse is launching its first-ever collaboration with the popular Japanese creator known as “Kawaisoni!”.

The new collection will feature the artist’s two most famous characters, “Opanchu Usagi” and “Npochamu,” on three different styles of the iconic Converse All Star sneaker.

OPANCHU
Opanchu often finds herself in bizarre yet relatable situations

“Kawaisoni!” has gained a massive following among younger, social media-driven audiences in Japan for their irreverent and often comically melancholic characters.

“Opanchu Usagi” is a rabbit character perpetually stuck in cute but pitiable situations, while “Npochamu” is a hamster-like character known for their earnestness.

NPOCHAMU
Npochamu and Opanchu are hugely popular characters in Japan

This new partnership brings the world of these characters to the timeless silhouette of the Converse All Star.

The collection features three different design approaches, each with separate versions for “Opanchu Usagi” and “Npochamu.”

  • ALL STAR CL HI / KAWAISOUNI!
    • Price: ¥9,900

This model uses the classic All Star high-top as a base, integrating the characters in subtle ways.

The character’s face peeks out from within the circular ankle patch, and small motifs like ribbons or flowers are hidden on the bottom of the outsole.

  • ALL STAR PT HI / KAWAISOUNI!
    • Price: ¥11,000

This version is a print-arrange model that features a bold, all-over pattern.

The design is a collage of the characters alongside specially drawn illustrations of the All Star sneaker itself.

The tongue labels also feature mismatched character expressions on the left and right shoes.

  • ALL STAR RS / KAWAISOUNI!
    • Price: ¥8,800

This model is a room shoe/slipper-style arrangement of the All Star.

It features each character’s face embroidered directly onto the toe cap of each shoe.

The heel labels are also customized with character-specific motifs: Opanchu Usagi’s briefs for her model, and a macaron for the Npochamu model.

All shoes in the collection will come with insoles printed with a specially drawn collaboration logo and will be packaged in a custom-designed shoebox.
