Chiikawa teams up with Tomica to release cute new Shisa and Kani toy cars

Takara Tomy has announced two new additions to its Dream Tomica SP mini-car series, featuring characters from the popular Japanese franchise Chiikawa.
These collectibles merge the familiar form of Tomica cars with the distinct visual style of Chiikawa, offering new items for fans of both brands.

Tomica, a line of die-cast toy cars produced by Takara Tomy, has been a staple in Japan since 1970, known for its detailed miniature replicas of real vehicles and, more recently, collaborations with various pop culture franchises under the “Dream Tomica” brand.

Chiikawa, created by illustrator Nagano, is a widely recognized Japanese manga and anime series featuring small, adorable characters living out their daily lives, often with surreal and occasionally dark undertones.
Its widespread popularity has led to a diverse range of merchandise and collaborations, such as a recently announced team up with sushi chain Kura Sushi.

These new Dream Tomica SP vehicles feature large, distinct illustrations of the characters on their front, with complementary patterns adorning their sides.
The designs aim to reflect the essence of each Chiikawa character:
“Chiikawa Shisa” Tomica

- The “Chiikawa Shisa” Tomica features the character Shisa, whose design is inspired by the traditional Okinawan guardian lion-dogs.

- The vehicle includes illustrations of bitter gourds (goya), further evoking Okinawan themes.

“Chiikawa Kani/Furuhon-ya”

- The “Chiikawa Kani/Furuhon-ya” Tomica highlights Kani, the second hand bookstore owner, with her vehicle decorated with flower patterns.

The “Dream Tomica SP Chiikawa Shisa” and “Dream Tomica SP Chiikawa Kani/Furuhon-ya” are both set for release in August, 2025, priced at ¥880 each (tax included).
Both will be available through various hobby goods stores and Amazon Japan upon release.
