Chicago to be the home of North America’s first “THE GUNDAM BASE” store
The first-ever, permanent, official “THE GUNDAM BASE” flagship store in North America is set to open.
The new store, “THE GUNDAM BASE CHICAGO,” will be located at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago.
THE GUNDAM BASE is the official, global flagship store for “Gunpla,” the massively popular line of “Gundam plastic model” kits from Bandai Spirits.
For many years, these official stores have been a major destination for fans in Asia, with locations in Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Thailand.
The stores are more than just a simple retail space.
They serve as a central hub for the entire Gunpla hobby and culture, offering a place for fans to gather, build, and celebrate their shared passion.
A key feature of The Gundam Base is its extensive lineup of “Gundam Base Limited” model kits and other exclusive merchandise that cannot be purchased at any other general retail stores.
The stores also often feature “Build Spaces,” where customers can assemble the kits they have just purchased, as well as displays of professionally built models and new product announcements.
While a number of temporary, “pop-up” versions of The Gundam Base have been held in North America in the past, this new Chicago location will be the first-ever permanent, full-scale flagship store in the region.
This is a major and long-awaited development for the massive and rapidly growing community of Gunpla fans in the United States and Canada.
Further details regarding a specific grand opening date and the store’s lineup of exclusive products have not yet been announced.
“THE GUNDAM BASE CHICAGO” is scheduled to open in the winter of 2025.
