Bookings open for Japan’s new Pompompurin themed hotel rooms
Following Pompompurin’s first-place victory in the Sanrio Character Ranking 2025, Hotel New Otani Hakata is offering special themed rooms for fans.
The Sanrio Character Ranking, an annual popularity poll, began in 1986 within Sanrio’s monthly “Ichigo Shinbun” publication and marks its 40th anniversary this year.
Over 450 Sanrio characters are eligible, with rankings determined by votes cast online and at Sanrio shops.
Pompompurin, a golden retriever character with a distinctive beret, debuted in 1996 and is known for his relaxed demeanor and love for going out.
Purin’s victory in 2025 returns him to the top spot after a 9 year absence and to celebrate his win, Sanrio will be arranging multiple collaborations and exclusive merchandise lines.
The collaboration with Hotel New Otani Hakata aims to provide guests with a memorable experience celebrating Pompompurin’s achievement, perfect for summer vacations, birthdays, or general celebrations.
Two different room designs are available for Pompompurin fans to stay in.
One room type is the “Pompompurin Ippai Room” (Full of Pompompurin Room), which sees Pompompurin and friends adorn the walls, ceiling and furnishings of the room.
The other is the “Kawaii wo Hatsumei! Lab Room” (Inventing Cuteness! Lab Room), which is based on a cute theme that sees Pompompurin and friends creating cuteness together in a laboratory setting.
Guests have the option to enjoy consecutive nights, experiencing both different room themes.
The hotel package includes exclusive original take-home merchandise, featuring designs created solely for this plan, not available for general sale.
These souvenirs include a plush toy with “HAKATA” embroidered on its paw, serving as a reminder of your trip to Fukuoka.
An acrylic charm is also included, detachable from the plush toy for use on bags or pouches.
Other exclusive items are an Imabari towel with a Pompompurin embroidered motif, known for its soft texture.
A Hakata-ori pouch featuring the traditional Kenjo pattern of Hakata-ori fabric, recognized for its luster and three-dimensional weave, is also part of the set.
The take-home goods are provided for each guest.
The “Pompompurin x Hotel New Otani Hakata” stay plan is available for reservations for stays from August through November 2025.
Rates for an Executive Twin Room start from ¥35,000 for one person per room and ¥50,000 for two people per room.
These prices include one night’s room charge, breakfast, service charge, consumption tax, and accommodation tax for one to two guests.
An additional charge of ¥4,000 per person applies for stays on Saturdays and the day before a holiday.
Bookings will commence at 10:00 AM on July 1st, 2025, exclusively via internet reservation through the official The New Otani collaboration page.
Only two rooms are available per day for this special offer, so you’ll need to make your reservation as soon as possible to stay in these special Pompompurin themed rooms!
