BANDAI to release model kit of the iconic Air Jordan 1 sneaker
Japanese hobby manufacturer Bandai Spirits has announced a new partnership with the iconic footwear company, Jordan Brand.
The first product from this unexpected collaboration will be a plastic model kit of the Air Jordan 1 sneaker.
Bandai Spirits model kits typically focus on Gundams and other robotic characters, such as the recently announced Gundam Naion model kit.
The Air Jordan 1 is one of the most famous and influential sneakers in history, first released by Nike in 1985 as the signature shoe for the basketball legend, Michael Jordan.
Its timeless design has transcended the basketball court to become a staple of global fashion and a centerpiece of sneaker culture.
This new project reimagines the classic shoe as a buildable, high-detail plastic model kit, applying Bandai Spirits’ renowned engineering to the world of footwear.
The kit is based on the “Air Jordan 1 High 85” silhouette and focuses on the classic “Shadow” colorway.
It features intricate part separation to faithfully replicate the sneaker’s complex design, with individual pieces for the sole, the upper panels, and even the shoelaces.
The product includes parts to build both the standard “Shadow” and a “Reverse Shadow” version of the colorway.
Due to the high demand expected for this unique collaboration, the model kit will be sold via a lottery-based pre-order system, and customers must enter a draw for a chance to be able to purchase the item.
The “NIKE AIR JORDAN 1 HIGH 85 SHADOW AND REVERSE SHADOW MODEL KIT” is priced at 11,000 yen (approx. $74 USD/£55 GBP).
The lottery for pre-orders is scheduled to begin on the exclusive Premium Bandai online store at 11:00 AM Japan Standard Time on Thursday, the 31st of July.
