Attack on Titan Marks Its 17th Anniversary with Dramatic New Designs for Eren, Levi, Erwin and Mikasa
Image by James RichardsonAttack on Titan has officially begun its 17th anniversary celebrations by revealing stunning new designs for Eren, Mikasa, Levi and Erwin that see them wearing dramatic outfits inspired by a dark “Raven Blade” theme.
The newly drawn artwork, which has been created to provide the theme for a new collaboration cafe in Japan, places all four characters in predominantly black clothing covered with feather-like details, while each is shown carrying a shining blade against a dark night-sky backdrop.
Mikasa’s design incorporates a black beret and asymmetric outfit, Eren combines sheer sleeves with harness-inspired details, Erwin is adorned with jewelry and rings, while Levi carries one of the most elaborate swords in the group.
The artwork will serve as the centerpiece of the upcoming “Attack on Titan Raven Blade Cafe in TreeVillage,” although TreeVillage is deliberately holding back most of the collaboration’s contents for a later reveal.
The timing of the announcement is particularly fitting, arriving immediately before the first officially recognized “Attack on Titan Day” on September 9.
Japan’s Anniversary Association recently registered September 9 as a permanent annual celebration of Hajime Isayama’s series, with the date chosen because Attack on Titan began serialization in the inaugural issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine on September 9, 2009.
That means that the first official Attack on Titan Day also marks exactly 17 years since the manga debuted, beginning a story that would eventually run for 139 chapters before concluding in April 2021 and becoming the basis for the internationally successful anime adaptation.
A new commemorative visual has been created for the occasion that makes repeated use of the number nine through references to September 9 and the Nine Titans, alongside a dedicated Attack on Titan Day logo inspired by Eren’s enormous final Doomsday Titan form.
Kodansha is also marking the anniversary by making the first 99 chapters of the manga available to read for free through its Magazine Pocket app for exactly 99 hours, beginning at midnight JST on September 9 and continuing until 2:59 AM JST on September 13.
A separate merchandise collection will launch through Magazine Shop using both the new anniversary visual and original artwork drawn by Isayama, with Eren, Levi and Erwin appearing in formal clothing created specifically for the celebration.
Attack on Titan Day will then culminate in a special livestream at 9:30 PM JST featuring Eren voice actor Yuki Kaji, Mikasa voice actor Yui Ishikawa and Connie Springer voice actor Hiro Shimono, with Kodansha teasing further announcements relating to the series during the broadcast.
The new “Raven Blade Cafe” gives fans another event to look forward to beyond those anniversary celebrations, with its first run scheduled to take place at TreeVillage Tokyo from October 10 through November 13, 2026.
The collaboration will then move to TreeVillage locations in Osaka and Hakata from December 19 through December 30, giving the dark new character designs a second outing just before the end of the year.
Full details of the themed food, drinks, exclusive merchandise and any purchase bonuses have not yet been revealed, with TreeVillage promising further information at a later date.
