Everything you need to know about the Sendai Area Pass

What is the Sendai Area Pass?
The Sendai Area Pass offers unlimited rides on JR trains, city buses, the Sendai subway and various other train and bus routes in Sendai.

How much does it cost?
- 2-day pass:
- Adult: 1,320 yen
- Child: 600 yen
Child passes are only available for those between 6 and 11 years old.
Where can it be used?
The pass allows unlimited travel on:
- JR lines between the following stations:
- Sendai
- Matsushima
- Matsushimakaigan
- Yamadera
- Shiroishi
- The Sendai Airport Access Line
- Loople Sendai Buses
- Sendai City Buses
- The Sendai Subway (excluding Rakuten Shuttle bus)
- Miyagi Kotsu Bus between Sendai Station and Akiu Otaki
- Abukuma Express Line between Tsukinoki and Abukuma
Important information
- The pass is valid for foreign tourists only.
- You must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan.
- You must reside outside Japan and are visiting Japan on a temporary visitor visa(*).
- The age of a child is defined as the age on the date of purchase. A passport or other such document is required to prove a child’s age.
- The date of the pass can be changed once if unused and the expiration date has not passed.
Valid Period
The rail pass is valid for 2 consecutive days.
Where to buy
The pass can be purchased from the JR EAST Travel Service Center on the 2nd Floor of JR Sendai Station.

How to use
Insert your rail pass into the automatic ticket gate when using JR trains, the Sendai Subway or the Sendai Airport Access Line.
Make sure to pick up your rail pass after passing through the gate. The rail pass cannot be reissued even if it is lost or stolen etc.
When using the Abukuma Express Line, show the pass to staff when you get on and off.
For the buses, show the pass to the driver when you get off.
Value
This passes offers a convenient and cost-effective way to visit the Sendai area.
Getting a train between Sendai Station and Sendai Airport will cost 660 yen and a subway trip between Sendai and Kita-Sendai stations will cost 250 yen. While these individual ticket prices are low, multiple trips on public transport can easily add up to more than the cost of the pass.
This 1-day pass offers great value if you expect to make frequent use of public transport during your time in Sendai.
It can be beneficial to plan your journeys on trains and buses included in the pass in advance, as this will also help you to determine if you can match, or ideally exceed, the value of the pass with your intended travel.
