What is the Kagawa Mini Rail & Ferry Pass?

The Kagawa Mini Rail & Ferry is designed for foreign tourists and offers unlimited travel on trains operated by JR Shikoku and Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad (Kotoden) within Kagawa Prefecture.

This includes limited express trains, and local trains as well as some bus and ferry routes allowing for extensive travel across the prefecture.

How much does it cost?

  • 2-day pass:
    • Adult: 6,000 yen
    • Child: 3,000 yen

Child passes are only available for those between 6 and 11 years old.

Where can it be used?

It is valid for travel in non-reserved seats on limited express, rapid, and local trains on specific JR Shikoku lines, all Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad Lines, Shodoshima Ferry passage between Takamatsu and Tonosho, and the Shodoshima Olive Bus line.

It also includes Shodoshima Ferry passage between Takamatsu and Tonosho and the Shodoshima Olive Bus line.

Important information

  • The pass is valid for foreign tourists only.
    • You must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan.
    • You must reside outside Japan and are visiting Japan on a temporary visitor visa(*).
  • The age of a child is defined as the age on the date of purchase. A passport or other such document is required to prove a child’s age.

Valid Period

The rail pass is valid for 2 consecutive days.

Where to buy

  • Purchase through online or offline travel agents outside of Japan.
  • Available to purchase in Japan at the JR Shikoku Tour Takamatsu Branch or Takamatsu Station JR Ticket office.
  • If purchased outside Japan or online, the rail pass must be collected from the JR Shikoku Tour Takamatsu Branch or Takamatsu Station JR Ticket office.

How to use

Present the front side of your ticket to the station employee at ticket gates or when asked on the train, ferry or bus.

Value

This passes offers a convenient and cost-effective way to explore Kagawa Prefecture.

A regular one-way ticket on a limited express train between Kan-onji and Takamatsu can cost 2,440 yen, a round trip between Takamatsu Port and Tonosho Port on the ferry will cost 1,330 yen for a foot passenger and a 1-day ticket for the Shodoshima Olive Bus costs 1,300 yen, so the pass can offer good value for those looking to travel across the prefecture and visit Shodoshima if they also expect to use additional local trains.

Even more cost savings can be gained by using the pass for travel on local lines covered by the pass around your destination.

It can be beneficial to plan your journeys on trains included in the rail pass in advance, as this will also help you to determine if you can match, or ideally exceed, the value of the pass with your intended travel.
