Toki no Sumika Illumination 2026
Last Updated on March 5, 2026

The Gotemba Kogen Resort is preparing to launch its 30th anniversary celebration of the Tokinosumika Illumination, a popular winter tradition located at the base of Mt. Fuji.
This year’s event is centered on the theme of a Magic Forest and will feature a massive display of 5.5 million light bulbs designed to create a glowing realm of light and sound.
A centerpiece of the festivities will be a newly designed 20 meter symbol tree that takes inspiration from the silhouette of the nearby mountain.
Inside the Magical Church, also known as the Cherry Blossom Chapel, visitors will be able to watch a reimagined story presented through advanced projection mapping technology.
The experience continues at Royal Palace Hill where a Light Walkway bathed in blue radiance leads guests toward an impressive fountain laser show that reaches heights of 150 meters.
This fountain spectacle recently received top honors at the International Illumination Award 2024 and will include dance performances alongside limited edition collaborations.
Additional attractions spread across the resort grounds include a glowing merry-go-round and the Bell of Love, which is recognized as one of the largest swing bells in the world.
As a certified member of Japan’s Night View Heritage, the resort remains a leader in large-scale light displays by offering immersive environments that blend imagination with the natural landscape.
Travelers can reach the venue via a five minute taxi ride from Fujioka Station on the Gotemba Line or by driving approximately ten minutes from the Gotemba or Susono interchanges on the Tomei Expressway.
The resort provides extensive on-site parking for over 2000 vehicles to accommodate the large crowds expected for this milestone anniversary season.
