The city of Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture is preparing to host the Japan Umeshu Festival, a celebration dedicated to the traditional Japanese liqueur made from steeping plums in alcohol and sugar.
Set to take place at the Kairakuen Tokiwa Shrine, the event will feature an extensive selection of over 140 different varieties of umeshu sourced from breweries located throughout the country.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample these various plum wine blends during dedicated thirty minute tasting sessions.
Early access tickets are available for purchase through 7-11 convenience stores at a rate of 1100 yen, while those buying on the day of the event can expect to pay 1200 yen.
The festival grounds are situated in a scenic area known for its historical significance and natural beauty, particularly during the peak of the plum blossom season.
Visitors can reach the venue with a one minute walk from Kairakuen Station, a seasonal stop on the JR Joban Line that specifically opens to accommodate the influx of guests during this time of year.
The Plum Wine Research Association has provided support for the gathering, which highlights the craftsmanship and regional variations found in this popular beverage.
