Atami Plum Garden Plum Festival 2026
Last Updated on March 6, 2026

The seaside city of Atami in Shizuoka Prefecture is preparing to host its annual celebration of early spring at the Atami Plum Garden.
This historic botanical site is renowned for housing some of the earliest blooming plum tree varieties in Japan, offering a vibrant display of color while much of the country is still in the grip of winter.
The upcoming festival will feature approximately 500 individual trees spanning 59 different varieties, including early, mid, and late blooming types to ensure a continuous floral display throughout the event period.
Visitors to the garden can explore winding paths that showcase the delicate petals and sweet fragrance of the blossoms, which serve as a traditional herald of the changing seasons.
General admission for the event is set at 300 yen for adults, while junior high school students and younger children are granted free entry to encourage families to enjoy the natural scenery.
The venue is conveniently accessible for travelers, located just a ten minute walk from JR Kinomiya Station on the Ito Line.
Alternatively, those arriving via the Tokaido Shinkansen or the Tokaido Main Line can reach the garden by a ten minute taxi ride from the major transportation hub of JR Atami Station.
This seasonal gathering highlights the unique microclimate of the region, which allows these specific trees to thrive and bloom well before similar species in other parts of the Japanese archipelago.
