Yakuza vending machines head to Osaka this July with exclusive merch
SEGA has announced a unique new retail experience for fans of its globally successful “Yakuza” video game series in Osaka.
The series is known as “Ryu ga Gotoku” in Japan, which translates to “Like a Dragon”. The series started using this name in the West following the 2020 release “Yakuza: Like a Dragon”.
Last year, vending machines selling exclusive “Yakuza” merchandise were installed in Kabukicho, the real-world inspiration for the series’ Kamurocho setting, and now they are coming to Osaka.
The new vending machines will be installed in the busy Umeda district of Osaka.
The “Yakuza” series, developed by Sega’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, has sold over 27.7 million units worldwide since its debut in 2005.
The games are renowned for their intricate crime dramas, over-the-top combat, and immersive open-world environments based on real-life Japanese nightlife districts.
One of the most famous fictional settings in the series is Sotenbori, a vibrant entertainment district in Osaka that is a direct recreation of the real-life Dotonbori.
It has served as a central location in fan-favorite games like “Yakuza 0” and “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name”, often serving as the base of operations for protagonists like Goro Majima.
The vending machines will offer exclusive merchandise, including new items that are exclusive to Osaka.
The flagship product is the “Yakuza I LOVE Sotenbori T-shirt,” which will be sold in both L and XL sizes for 3,900 yen (approx. $26.95 USD / £19.64 GBP) each.
This T-shirt is a local exclusive, celebrating the fictional district that has become a second home for many players of the series.
Other items available for purchase from the vending machine include:
- “Yakuza Kamurocho acrylic key chain (2 to collect)
- “Yakuza multi-purpose pouch”
- “Yakuza tattoo pin badge” (2 to collect)
- “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii wanted poster-style acrylic key chain collection” (9 to collect)
- “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Acrylic Stand Goro Majima (Pirates/Mad Dog)” (2 to collect)
The vending machines can be found on the second floor of the KITTE Osaka shopping center in Umeda, Osaka, from Tuesday, July 1st, 2025.
While the “I LOVE Sotenbori T-shirt” will be exclusive to the vending machine, most of the other items will also be available for purchase on the “Yakuza” official online store or the vending machines located in Kabukicho, Tokyo.
