The Apothecary Diaries’ new ‘Maomao Cola’ is definitely not poison…probably

Fans of The Apothecary Diaries may want to check that a new beverage based on one of the series’ most popular characters is safe to drink before consuming it.

“Maomao Cola” has been created by drinks manufacturer ‘Acrylic Complex’ as the latest addition to their “Charasyrup” line of original craft syrups inspired by various anime and game titles.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) anime, based on the light novel series, follows Maomao, a young woman with a sharp mind for toxicology and pharmacology, as she navigates the intricate world of the imperial court.

The series is no stranger to collaborations, with a recent team up with jewelry designer KARATZ resulting in Maomao and Jinshi themed rings and earrings being released.

Known for its blend of mystery, historical fiction, and insights into ancient medicine and poisons, “medicinal” cola is a thematically fitting product for the series.

“Maomao Cola” is presented as an original herbal cola that aims to return to cola’s origins as a medicinal concoction.

It is formulated using a blend of various traditional Chinese herbs and spices. The syrup is described as having a distinctive flavor profile, with prominent notes of hawthorn (sanzashi) and jasmine.

Fans can drink “Maomao Cola” not only as a traditional cold beverage but also as a hot cola or a milk cola, offering a number of ways to enjoy its unique flavor.
