Studio Ghibli Announces New Kiki’s Delivery Service 4K UHD Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Release
Image by James RichardsonA new 4K UHD and Blu-ray release of Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service is set to bring the movie’s newly restored version to home video following its return to theaters earlier this year.
The new “Kiki’s Delivery Service 4K UHD + Blu-ray Set” uses the same 4K digital restoration created for the movie’s 2026 IMAX screenings, presenting Hayao Miyazaki’s 1989 classic with newly remastered picture and audio across a two-disc set.
Kiki’s Delivery Service follows 13-year-old witch Kiki as she leaves home with her black cat Jiji and settles in the seaside city of Koriko, where she establishes a delivery service while learning to live independently and dealing with loneliness, uncertainty and the pressures of growing up.
Based on Eiko Kadono’s novel, the movie was written and directed by Miyazaki with music composed by Joe Hisaishi, and has since become one of Studio Ghibli’s best-known coming-of-age stories.
The restoration already received a major international showcase in March, when Kiki’s Delivery Service returned to North American theaters in 4K through IMAX and debuted at number seven at the US box office during its opening weekend.
That theatrical run formed part of a wider project bringing newly restored Studio Ghibli movies to IMAX, with longtime Ghibli cinematographer Atsushi Okui overseeing the creation of the new 4K versions.
Kiki’s story is also heading to live action, with BBC Studios Kids & Family, Wheel in Motion and Kadokawa currently developing a new ten-episode television adaptation based primarily on the first volume of Kadono’s original novel series.
For the new physical release, the 4K UHD disc presents the movie at 3840 × 2160 resolution and includes Japanese Dolby TrueHD audio options, while the accompanying newly mastered Blu-ray also includes both Japanese and English audio.
The two discs are packaged inside a special outer case with a digipak, while three original art cards are included as physical bonuses.
The Blu-ray also contains trailers created for the movie’s 2026 theatrical return, including promotional videos for its IMAX and expanded Japanese screenings.
Kiki’s Delivery Service becomes the third Studio Ghibli feature to receive a 4K UHD release in Japan following The Boy and the Heron and Princess Mononoke, continuing the studio’s gradual move of its catalog into the format.
The “Kiki’s Delivery Service 4K UHD + Blu-ray Set” will be released in Japan on November 25, 2026, priced at ¥11,880 (approximately $76 / £57).
The newly restored version has already screened in North America, although an equivalent North American 4K UHD home release has not been announced at this stage.
