Region exclusive Gundam merchandise goes on sale at Hokkaido airport
Gundam fans traveling through Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport near Sapporo can now acquire exclusive, region-specific merchandise.
STRICT-G JAPAN is now selling “Mobile Suit Gundam” Hokkaido Limited Edition T-shirts and keychains at the airport’s official Gundam store.
These exclusive regional items are available at the STRICT-G section within “THE GUNDAM BASE ANNEX in NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT” store, which recently opened on the 4th floor of the domestic terminal building.
Gundam Base Annex stores are smaller branches of the main Gundam Base flagship stores which offer a curated selection of Gunpla and merchandise, often including exclusive items.
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is known for its iconic anime series featuring mechs and mobile suits that have been turned into a popular type of model kit referred to as Gunpla.
The series on-going popularity in Japan means that it still sees an extensive range of merchandise produced each year.
STRICT-G is Bandai’s official apparel brand that specializes in high-quality, fashionable clothing and accessories inspired by the Gundam universe, often featuring more mature or artistic interpretations of the series’ themes and Mobile Suits.
Previous STRICT-G products have included traditional Hanten style jackets, leather flight jackets and Char Aznable themed motocycle gear.
Their “STRICT-G JAPAN” sub-brand specifically focuses on collaborations that highlight Japanese culture and regional specialties.
They hope that by embracing Japanese design and the unique characteristics of each region will result in merchandise that is highly sought-after by both local fans and tourists.
The newly released Hokkaido-exclusive collection features a unique artistic interpretation that pays homage to Japan’s northernmost prefecture.
The designs showcase a powerful Gundam figure standing against a backdrop of Hokkaido, rendered with a dynamic, brushstroke-like artistic touch.
This art style evokes traditional Japanese ink painting or calligraphy, blending the futuristic mecha aesthetic with classical Japanese artistic sensibilities.
The design also incorporate the Japanese characters for “Northern Land” (北の大地) and Hokkaido ( 北海道), further emphasizing the regional exclusivity.
