Pokémon TCG Pocket Reveals First Look at New Team Rocket Expansion
The Pokémon Company has announced “Team Rocket’s Ambition,” a new themed expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket centered around the franchise’s original villainous organization and its Pokémon.
The upcoming set introduces a large selection of Team Rocket-owned Pokémon alongside new Trainer cards, artwork showing the group’s schemes and special card designs carrying the familiar red “R” emblem.
Team Rocket has been part of Pokémon since the original Red and Blue games, with Giovanni leading the criminal organization in its attempts to exploit Pokémon for power and profit throughout the Kanto storyline.
The group has remained a major part of the franchise ever since, appearing throughout the games, anime and Pokémon Trading Card Game, where Rocket-owned Pokémon have previously formed the basis of several popular card sets.
Team Rocket’s Ambition brings that concept into Pokémon TCG Pocket, with the first group of revealed cards showing that the expansion will draw from Pokémon across several generations rather than limiting itself to the original Kanto roster.
Leading the initial reveals are Team Rocket’s Moltres ex, Team Rocket’s Articuno ex and Team Rocket’s Zapdos ex, giving the organization its own versions of all three Legendary birds within the same expansion.
Team Rocket’s Mewtwo and Team Rocket’s Persian also feature among the newly revealed cards, connecting the set with two Pokémon that have longstanding ties to the organization and its leader Giovanni.
Other confirmed additions include Team Rocket’s Lapras, Team Rocket’s Houndour, Team Rocket’s Tinkaton, Team Rocket’s Arbok and Team Rocket’s Hypno, while a new Marowak card has also been shown among the first wave of reveals.
Several of the cards use artwork centered around Team Rocket itself, ranging from more threatening depictions of the organization carrying out its plans to scenes highlighting the often less competent side of its Grunts.
The Trainer lineup continues the theme with Team Rocket’s Boss, Team Rocket’s Master Plan and Team Rocket’s Thieving Machine, giving decks built around the new cards additional ways to lean into the group’s underhanded approach.
Only a selection of cards has been revealed so far, meaning more Pokémon, alternate artwork and higher-rarity cards from Team Rocket’s Ambition are still waiting to be uncovered when the complete expansion becomes available.
The launch will also introduce new collection accessories featuring Team Rocket’s Boss alongside Persian, including a themed binder and display board for players wanting to carry the takeover beyond their decks.
A wider series of events and campaigns is planned around the expansion as well, with Team Rocket’s Lapras, Fennekin and Meowstic among the Pokémon confirmed to feature in upcoming opportunities to expand your collection.
Team Rocket’s Ambition follows July’s Ruler of the Skies expansion, which brought Mega Rayquaza ex to Pokémon TCG Pocket alongside another wave of new cards and accessories.
The Pokémon TCG Pocket: Team Rocket’s Ambition expansion will launch for US players on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM PDT.
Pokémon TCG Pocket remains available as a free-to-start game for iOS and Android, with Team Rocket’s Ambition booster packs joining the existing selection once the expansion goes live.
