Pac-Man “Eats” Tokyo’s Metropolitan Government Building
In a bid to increase night-time tourism, Tokyo Metropolitan Government is utilising projection mapping to light up the iconic Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building under a series of events called “TOKYO Night & Light”.
Using the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building as a canvas, a variety of projects encompassing art, light and sound have so far encouraged approximately 350,000 visitors to the events throughout 2024.
“PAC-MAN eats TOKYO” a new event featuring “Pac-Man”, a character celebrating its 45th anniversary next year, began screenings on September 28th.
To mark the first day of the event, Pac-Man himself appeared at the Tokyo Metropolitan Plaza and participated in a photo session, much to the joy of visitors
Both foreign tourists as well as Tokyo residents attended, with the popularity of “Pac-Man” acting as a unifying presence.
The main event see’s the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building lit up to look like the game board seen in “Pac-Man” games. “Pac-Man” moves around the board freely, dynamically eating up everything.
Set to music by Sasuke Haraguchi, the event incorporates elements of Pac-Man’s game music making it a new yet familiar experience.
No end date for the “Pac-Man Eats Tokyo” show has been announced, however visitors to Tokyo are encouraged to enjoy the Pac-Man x Tokyo collaboration whilst they still can by heading to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building during performance times.

*”PAC-MAN eats TOKYO” will not be shown at the 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, 9:00 PM, and 9:30 PM screenings on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
