Osaka Metro begins eSIM sales in 12 stations across the city

Telecom Square, a global provider of cross-border mobile communications solutions, has announced that it will commence offering its eSIM sales brand, “eSIM square,” at all “WiFiBOX” self-service Wi-Fi rental stations installed at Osaka Metro stations, starting from March 10th 2025.

New “WiFiBOXes” will be installed at Osaka Metro’s Shin-Osaka Station from Thursday, March 20th, and at Hommachi Station and Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station from Saturday, March 22nd, with service beginning at these locations from this date.

“eSIM square” is an eSIM sales service designed to be user-friendly, allowing even individuals with no prior eSIM experience to begin using the service in just two steps. It supports over 200 countries and regions and offers over 300 product options.
Users can easily monitor their current data usage and purchase additional data as needed. Comprehensive support is provided via email and chat, ensuring that even novice users can utilize the service with confidence.
“WiFiBOX” is a Wi-Fi rental service that enables instant reservation (pre-reservation is also available), pick-up, and return without direct human contact (patent pending). The router is equipped with an integrated charging cable, which allows users to charge their smartphones.
The service design, which provides multiple benefits in various aspects, such as reducing operational costs and freeing up surplus space at installation locations, received high acclaim and was awarded the Good Design Award in 2022.
The WiFiBOX has already been installed at a total of 12 stations, including Osaka Metro’s Yumeshima Station, which is gaining attention as the closest station to the World Expo (hereinafter referred to as “Osaka-Kansai Expo”) scheduled to be held in Yumeshima, Osaka, in April 2025.

With the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo, an increase in both domestic and international tourists visiting Osaka is anticipated. Therefore, the decision was made to offer “eSIM square” at the “WiFiBOX” stations.
By providing eSIMs, which are commonly used overseas, foreign tourists visiting Japan will be able to enjoy a more convenient communication environment. “eSIM square” can be easily purchased by scanning the QR code displayed on the sticker attached to the “WiFiBOX” box (main unit).
In addition, WiFiBOX will be installed and service will begin at Osaka Metro’s Shin-Osaka Station from Thursday, March 20, 2025, and at Hommachi Station and Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station from Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Shin-Osaka Station, a stop on the Shinkansen, is a key access point for tourists traveling from outside Osaka and for individuals traveling to or from Osaka for business or leisure.
Hommachi Station and Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station are located in one of Osaka’s major business districts, providing a highly convenient option for business professionals, as they can pick up and return the WiFiBOX on their way to or from work.
